About "China’s Recycling Ban"
A little known aspect of US trade with China consists of recycled materials, with China importing 1.42 million tons of US plastic waste annually. US manufacturers are not equipped to handle this quantity of recyclables, and China has stepped in to reuse our waste as a part of the manufacturing industry. However, by the end of the year, China will cease imports of a large portion of these recycled goods, leaving the US and other developed nation “waste”-deep in plastic, cardboard, and aluminum, with no easy solution. The sudden shift will affect the recycling industry as well as many others in the next few months.
Other question topics include China’s political system, technological developments, instability in Africa, nationalism and global stability, and more.
