When new resolutions are released, it pays to have a Curriculum Membership. Two resolutions were released by NSDA last week, and we have material for debaters.
The March/April LD resolution is “Resolved: The illegal use of drugs ought to be treated as a matter of public health, not of criminal justice.” If you’re looking for a good case idea, check out “Kicking the Habit: The Case for Drug Courts” by Matthew Baker in the 2012 Criminal Justice download.
Also announced was the March public forum resolution, “Resolved: The United States should promote the development of market rate housing in urban neighborhoods.” There is an LD case (Stoa LD Release #13: “People Over Property”) in the archived Public Needs vs Private Property Rights download that could be adapted to this resolution.
And if you’re a Policy debater, you’re probably hot on the prowl for generic negative briefs. Get to know how the champions do it by studying Generic Negative Briefing. This camp session was given several years ago, but the principles still apply.
Naomi Mathew has a opposition brief for NCFCA LD debaters claiming tariffs are bad, and Alisa Stringer has one for Stoa LD debaters showing how “Emotions Make Poor Legislators.” Tabitha Jeub will be heading up extemp and parli releases. Vance Trefethen has a negative briefs across the board: State Visas (NFHS/NSDA), PEPFAR (Stoa), and Guantanamo Bay (NCFCA). See you next week!
