The Affirmative plan cancels the use of drones as an overseas counter-terrorism strategy, claiming they target US citizens, kill innocent civilians, and fuel more resentment and more terrorism against us. But none of these harms justifies the plan. Claims of retaliation and terrorism recruiting are based on rumor and theory, not hard evidence, and when studies are actually conducted, it turns out terrorist groups do not actually gain recruits in reaction to drone strikes. Drones are highly accurate and civilian casualties are rare. Keep in mind that even if they do happen, they have to be compared to what the alternatives would be (air power, cruise missiles, etc.) that are less accurate and deadlier to bystanders. And the most accurate studies find drones are highly effective at reducing the effectiveness of terror groups in the long run by targeted killing of their leadership.
