About Speech and Debate
“Speech and debate” is both a classroom activity as well as an academic sport. Sometimes called forensics, speech and debate teaches communication skills through timed speeches that are evaluated by a judge. Monument Members are prepared for competition with weekly releases on a wide variety of speech and debate events.
About Our Curricula
Are you new to speech and debate? We strongly recommend visiting our mother website, Monument Publishing, and purchasing our sourcebooks. Our sourcebooks are divided into four teaching units, walking students and teachers through the structure, strategy, modeling and competition of speech and debate events. Downloadable addenda accompany the sourcebooks to support competition in various leagues. Teacher Guides are available for those who desire a complete and comprehensive approach to teaching and learning speech and debate.
About Our Methodolgy
There are several methodologies to teaching speech and debate success. After decades of teaching and growing our curriculum and programs, we believe we have whittled down a most successful teaching methodology we like to call “The Monument Methodology.” Click on the button below for more detail.
Monument Memberships are intended for speakers and debaters planning to compete in various speech and debate leagues. A weekly email drops to members called “Monument Mondays” that assembles source material that release that Monday. Throughout the competitive year, Monument’s authors and coaches keep members on the competitive edge, always preparing them for upcoming tournaments.
Outside the classroom environment, students can participate in many different leagues that provide competitive opportunities to apply their speech and debate learning. Monument Memberships provide direct support for several leagues, and cross-over to smaller leagues or organizations is simple. Follow the links below to find out more about what these leagues have to offer:
Within a league, there are several events. Monument Writers write material for specific events, and Monument Members enjoy this material immediately upon release (hot off the editing press). The following is a list of events we support:
About Becoming a Monument Writer
Do you have an interest in writing and publishing your speech and debate source material? Monument Memberships need writers. If you have experienced success in speech and debate and have a “teaching spirit” to pass your expertise onto the next generation of speakers and debaters, your help is welcome. We pay for publishable work, and we enjoy writing strong letters of recommendation for students in their future endeavors.
About Our History
Monument Publishing has been providing resources since 1998 to students and competitors across the country, primarily the NCFCA, NSDA and Stoa leagues. Officially founded with the first release of Blue Book, the authoring community of Monument Publishing has grown to hundreds of champion contributors. This history is rich with resources geared to making the speech and debate experience simple, successful and fun. We launched our membership program in 2016, and a year later launched Monument Members as its own website to accommodate with our larger demand.
